Painting lining: types and methods
To paint a lining in principle is not so difficult, you just need to know how to do it. After all, if you just apply a dye, then the coating will not last long. And therefore, how to paint the lining in the country or at home, we will tell you today. On the video in this article you will find a lot of useful and necessary information that will help you do everything right.

Completing of the work
The cost of painting the lining per m2 is quite high, basically it is equal to the cost of the material itself. So it’s better to do it yourself and then the price will not bite. According to this principle, painting of railway cars and other wooden products should also be done.
Material preparation
Painting lining in white or any other begins with the preparation of the base plane. It will depend on the durability of the coating and appearance.
You can tidy up the base material using two methods:
- Mechanically. A boring coating can be removed with a scraper, a metal brush, a construction hairdryer or a spatula (see How to remove paint from a tree: do it by the rules) First, the boards are treated with a solution of soda. Then apply other construction tools. The disadvantage of this option was the ability to damage the lamella. It is recommended to use it to remove oil paint.
- With the help of chemicals. To cause peeling of the coating, apply synthetic solutions, washes and softeners. This method is very dangerous, therefore it is necessary to work with chemical compounds very carefully in a ventilated room using appropriate protective equipment. When the varnish or paint is removed from the lamellas, they need to be washed or wiped with white spirit.
It was noticed by users that with a firmly holding old paint layer, it would only be necessary to sand it a little. After that a new layer is applied.
With minor but deep damage, the place is handled more carefully. If necessary, deep cracks are closed with putty (see How to putty wood: materials, tools, process technology) Next, apply a layer of the coloring composition, and then start painting the entire area for the decoration of which the lining was chosen.
How to prime
The product must be applied with a brush or spray.
A primer before applying paint has a lot of advantages:
- Adhesion Improvement Occurs, that is, the subsequent coat of paint or varnish with wood will occur quickly;
- Wood is protected from the swelling process;
- The pores are filled, so the topcoat is applied evenly;
- The consumption of the decorative layer is reduced significantly.
Some types of wood can produce tar for up to 10 years. There is a special primer that can close the pores (see Primer for wood and the rules for its selection).
Types of primer for lining
The primer is divided depending on the components:
- Acrylic substance. Ideal for interior use, as it is not able to protect against rust and rot.
- Alkyd substance. It can be used for indoor and outdoor use, because it is designed for specific wood species.
- Polystyrene substance. Due to the high degree of toxicity, they are used only for exterior decoration.
Self-made primers:
- With the addition of PVA glue (The solution is very popular among many users.In order not to appear primed places after drying, you need to apply it twice. There is a minus of the method - the appearance of white plaque on a wooden surface and a slight hiding of the structure of the tree.);
- Using gelatin (Edible gelatin is excellent for creating a primer. To prepare the composition, you will need to dissolve it in cold water in a ratio of 1 to 2, after which the mixture is placed in a water bath until the granules dissolve. The lining needs to be coated in two layer after cooling the mixture.).
Application of drying oils. The tool makes the wood sticky and changes its color. Due to the primer, a film should not form on a wooden surface.
How and with what wood is protected
A tree will be durable only if you protect it from external influences. Moreover, this will need to be done in the forehead case.
- The use of antiseptics. This chemical has an antifungal effect. They are designed to protect against fungus and beetles. It is recommended to apply an antiseptic agent before starting installation work, since parts with a reverse side require protection.
- The use of flame retardants. The main property of the compounds is a protective effect against fire. It should be borne in mind that a decorative coating should increase the degree of fire resistance of a wooden product.
Caution: Protective solutions are not visible after drying. Their advantage is their rapid penetration into wooden pores.
Protective treatment is very important, so many manufacturers use it in preparation for implementation. Among the main indicators of the quality of the lining is not only moisture and grade, but also a protective coating.
In this, ordinary material differs from euromaterial. It is recommended to apply a primer on all sides, especially on the ends of the lamellas, which after installation will not be painted.
What coating is suitable for lining
The finish coating greatly affects the safety of the product, so you need to be careful about its choice. Initially, it is necessary to determine the type of work - internal or external, the desired result, the price tag for the product, deadlines, and so on.
Oil-based paintwork | It has been tested by time that such products are capable of protecting a tree from moisture penetration for a long period of time.
When choosing oil paints, it should be borne in mind that the surface after drying will be a tone lighter. It is recommended to take a product of dark color.
|
Acrylic or acrylic paints | This product is odorless and stands out from the others by the speed of drying. The use of paint does not affect the duration of work. It is permissible to apply it at low temperature conditions. Acrylic paint does not require updates for a long period of time. The only negative is the high cost of production. |
Use of stain | Thanks to this substance, the tree takes on a different color. At the same time, its structure looks much better, and the cost is acceptable. The product will be indispensable if the wood surface is free from defects. |
Varnishing | Varnish is usually referred to the group of transparent coatings, so it lays well as a topcoat if it is necessary to preserve the natural structure of wood. |
Acrylic lacquer | Acrylic scuba lacquer is a varnish characterized by environmental cleanliness and quick drying. The advantage of a chemical is the ability to dilute it with water.Aqualak is used to finish wood lining on both sides. The tool is suitable for painting if a person with an allergy lives in the room. |
Alkyd materials | Thanks to the alkyd substance, a film forms on the surface of the panel. Less substance in its long drying. It is recommended to use it for rooms with a high percentage of humidity or in those rooms where building material will become unusable very quickly. Yacht varnish on the surface of the lining will make it durable and resistant to ultraviolet radiation. |
Wax paint | The newest tool for painting the panel is oil-wax, which tends to penetrate deep inside during processing, and thanks to the wax, the external state of the tree improves. |
The use of liquid plastic | This chemical agent is used for partial coloring of lining when decorating design elements. The tree takes on a futuristic look, but its micro-ventilation ability disappears to the full. |
On a note
The cost of painting the lining with varnish largely depends on the cost of materials, do not chase the cheapness, because you will lose in quality.
If you want to make high-quality processing of the lining, and extend the term of its operation, you must follow these recommendations:
- The process of paint is recommended to be mixed frequently, since the color of the coating may become uneven;
- To begin with, it is worth doing a trial painting to understand whether the desired color will turn out in the end;
- It is recommended to paint with a brush, in order to avoid an uneven shade, do not get carried away with thick layers;
- In the process of dyeing, cygeic gloves may be needed (panels can alternate with metal elements; it is very difficult to paint the pipes, because one side is on the ground; in this case, the mitten is turned out with the fur out, put on the hand, immersed in paint and used as a brush ; within one minute you can make a coating of pipes five meters long);
- It is recommended to tint the primer with a color that is most suitable for the one that has the upcoming paintwork;
- It is necessary to paint, avoiding direct sunlight, as the paint dries very quickly (it is better to exclude finishing work in hot weather and when precipitation occurs; warm weather without wind became an ideal option);
- The ends of the panels must undergo thorough processing, because they are the weakest points through which water penetrates the wood in a short time, they must be thoroughly coated with a primer and paintwork on several layers;
- When painting the facade of the building (see How to paint a house outside with your own hands) it should be borne in mind that if there are no gross structural defects on the lining, then it can be painted a second time in any color (while adhering to certain rules - the same material is used for secondary painting as for the first time; the type of paint is determined visually; acrylate paint cracks in the direction of the wood fibers and has a leathery surface, such material can be torn off and made into a tube that should not break; oil-based paint will not withstand such an experiment; antiseptics have a glossy film, the surface with it should be coated with the same or oil paint.
How to choose a topcoat
The painting of wagons is basically done without the last layer, because these are costs, but if they ate it for the house, then it will have to be done anyway.
- Color change. Due to the fact that stain and paint can change the color of the lining, you must correctly apply this property. When choosing a light shade, the space will visually become larger, and different colors are used for zoning the rooms.
- Elements of the composition.The absence of harmful elements can be determined by the prefix "bio". Such chemicals are ideal for interior decoration.
- Producing country. Russian analogues of coatings for lining are full competitors for foreign products. The cost of a domestic product is much lower than that of a foreign manufacturer.
In order for the lining to retain its original appearance for a long time, it will be necessary to carefully approach the choice of paintwork, which should be of high quality and have a lot of useful properties.
- For secondary painting, remove the old paint coat from the surface. It is completely eliminated if the damage is severe. For minor cracks, lightly sand the coating.
- For the best absorption of the chemical composition, it is necessary to do the processing of the lining, that is, its primer. The type of substance is chosen depending on the type of work, the desired result and other minor, but important nuances.
- At the first and subsequent staining, certain recommendations should be followed, the observance of which will increase the effect and extend the life of the wood products. At the same time, it is worth paying attention to the materials purchased, their composition, shade changes during the coloring process and the country where they were produced.
How to paint the lining white or any other you already understand. The instruction will not let you miss the details. Only high-quality materials should be used and then the coating will not cause you problems for a long time.
